Lots of fun

Great old-school feel. Fun sense of humor. Great level designs. Well done!

8-bit throwback

This game entertains. Period. Simple 8-bit styling with standard 2D gameplay, great music and funny sound effects. Xolan is "in the house", and for less than a cup of coffee.

If you love goblin sword youll dig this

Overall great game. Dialogue gives character. Jumping is no problem. Well put together. Def worth the .99

Excellent & Unique Platformer

This is definitely one of the best platformer games Ive played on my phone. As others have said, it is reminiscent of Goblin Sword, but I think its much more unique. The voiceovers, the music, the spells, and rescues; all very unique aspects of Xolan. As for controls, I have a 5S and Im 6"1 so my hands are pretty big, but I think the controls are pretty tight. Occasional jump glitches, but nothing worth complaining about. The music is catchy as hell. I find myself whistling the tunes when Im not playing. But Im also a huge sucker for beepboops. The cards are a great touch. Saw some complaints about their effects not being worth it, which I completely disagree with. If youre grinding the first few levels just to get all the cards, then youre an idiot. I think they were designed to buy as you play through the adventure modes and challenges. For me, Ive been playing through adventure and periodically checking challenges to see if I can play a new one. Neither game mode requires much replaying, a possible downside, but its more fun to collect as you go. Im halfway through the final "act" and I have one card left, which Im sure Ill be able to afford before I finish the game. It all played out perfectly, honestly. Reviewers should stop comparing this to Goblin Sword because its not. Its a great title in its own right and deserves credit. Props to the dev for a solid game. (If you have $2, just get them both.) Thank you, dev! Hope to see more of your work soon, whether in an update, a sequel to Xolan, or another platformer title for iOS.

A simple, fair, incredible platformer

I dont like platformers in general. I dont like games entirely based in trial and error. I find that they are unfair and frustrating. This game is neither. Though it does have an element of trial and error, the excellent pacing and general fairness of the game that never totally overwhelms you makes for some real fun. This is the first platformer Ive ever played to completion: all secrets and upgrades. Best 99 cent impulse buy ever on the App Store.

Second boss too hard

Im at the second boss and is impossible to beat. Make it a little easier.

such a waste

could be a fun game if the controls werent so unresponsive, and the boss fights werent so broken and unbalanced

If you loved...

GoblinSword or enjoy side-scrolling, action rpgs in general- you will love Sword of Xolan! its so much like GS, it could easily pass as a sequel/prequel or vice-versa. its not as deep as GS in terms of the RPG elements, but it equals if not surpasses GS in every other category(graphics, controls, enemies, gameplay, etc.) GREAT GAME!

Same game/different title

Youve played this game a hundred times. Appears to be unfinished/work in progress. To top it off, controls are beyond bad. Really bad. Id skip it, there are better/more polished platformers out there.

So sad its over

Just beat the game and it made me really sad. Great game.. Cant wait for part deux

Amazing game! Please add ion iCade support.

I love this game! Its a amazing retro medieval platformer. Perfect controls, great design, lovely animations and sound. Im enamored with this game! I have one request of the developers: please add ion iCade support! I would be such a happy camper if I could play this on my arcade cabinet AKA the ion iCade.

Wow!!!!!!! That is all I need to say.

Finally

Finally! Found a game worth buying.

Great

Just finished it. Great game. Controls are on par with Swordigo so that is a plus. The only thing is needed is maybe some more variation of music and perhaps more intricate plot rather than a just beating a bunch of boards. Highly recommend though! Well worth the money.

Great gameplay some minor issues

Altogether an awesome retro game that doesnt disappoint. A few things really annoy me though. Music: the music is great but its too good. It should be chip tunes but it sounds like real instrumentation. It really takes away from the atmosphere to me because it doesnt have a retro feel. If there was an update I would pay for it would be a midi version of the music. Voices: again, not bad but completely unnecessary and detract from the classic feel. Please add an option to turn it off. Anyway, I should add that the MFi controller support is awesome. Powershell works great. Amazing game overall!

If u luv classic games like Ghosts & Goblins you will luv this

Awesome game! Takes me back to the classic style side scrolling games of the NES & Super NES. If you luv Ghosts & Goblins or Ghouls & Ghosts you will luv this games. 5 stars hands down.

This game is great

Jumping around and fighting enemies is amazing. This game really has a good way of letting you decided whether you want to play it for 2 minutes or 20. It could use some refinements. When it shows you how many villagers you have rescued, it should show it in order so you know which parts of the level to search.

Its ok

Too repetitive...same music gets old not enough power ups I tried to enjoy it and tried to finish it despite I was no longer interested just to delete it off my phone

Make a sequel please!

This game rocks! It is the perfect level of difficulty and it is super fun to play. It has upgrades, story, challenges, super satisfying sound affects, and awesome character phrases. Please make another cuz I will buy it for sure! Ohhh baby.

Most enjoyable game!!

This game is fantastic. I bought it on a whim and have been pleasantly surprised. Its great old school charm, nice difficulty ramping, charming graphics, and great bestiary keep me coming back for more and more. Hope they add more levels! For those whove played... "that was what I neeeeded!"
